Typical FAA Issues

Unfortunately, the FAA has a certain lack of clear standards in regards RVSM review and approvals, even as GLN has completed thousands of manual sets all over the world. Here are some of the most common issues.

Manuals Have Too Much Detail

This is right after Manuals Don't Have Enough Details. The RVSM Maintenance Manual part of this set is very detailed for overall RVSM maintenance issues, such as adding aircraft, removing aircraft, coordination with flight operations, training, records, etc.

However, to overcome the too much detail or too little issues we have a separate aircraft-specific maintenance chapter for each aircraft.

Aircraft-Specific Chapter

We have the separate aircraft-specific chapter for each aircraft (which is how you easily add more aircraft to this manual set). The details in that section overcomes most FAA issues about details as we embed information about AMMs, inspection programs and MEL items. Usually, this is enough for any review.

FAA Wants Inspection Job Cards

This is happening in maybe 20% of the RVSM approvals. The FAA inspector wants to see the job cards and have them listed in the aircraft-specific chapter. This is really not a good idea as the cars will change with changes to the inspection program, but be ready in case we ask for it.

Large Operator Needs More Detail on Maintenance Coordination

This is not an unreasonable request and is usually seen in large operations with many aircraft and a dedicated inspector that wants to see more details in the RVSM Maintenance chapter. We can handle that best by sending out the Word file of that section and work with you for a few minutes to make the changes.
