RVSM Pilot Training

Part 91 Operations

14 CFR part 91, Appendix G says that the Part 91 pilots must be familiar with the requirements for RVSM operations, a process that is generally met with either online training or training from one of the training centers. In theory, or legally, it is not specifically saying you have to get any outside training, but documentation of qualification to the FAA could be an issue not worth fighting over.

Part 135 Operations

14 CFR part 91, Appendix G says that the Part 135 pilots must be trained and knowledgeable about the requirements for RVSM operations. Here is the problem. Many, if not most, FAA offices readily accept any of the training center certificates and certificates from the RVSM online providers, including GLN here at this site, but many insist that you must have a program embedded into your current FAA training program and have that approved--but who then does the training. The online training is better, more comprehensive and better documented that the average charter operator could ever provide. It is worth checking with the FAA to see what your POI will accept.

Training Documentation You Must Provide

You need a training certificate for most original RVSM certifications. If you have it, please send or fax it to GLN at 303-925-1495 along with your data forms.
