NEF Program

GLN's Non-Essential Equipment and Furnishings Program

We provide free our electronic Word version of the NEF program for your editing. This takes about 30-minutes and is done only once for the company, not each aircraft.

You can buy the NEF software online at our GLN's eStore. See Product M0100.

FAA Problems with the NEF Program

There is a troublesome lack of standards and consistency in the NEF program. This was originally meant to make MEL ATA items easier to identify and use, not to make more trouble and paperwork.

The FAA said this would be a company document, not an aircraft-specific document. So, the NEFs most used, ours included, has pages of tables of things like lavatory items and other cabin and cockpit. So, you make one document for the entire company and if some aircraft does not have, say, a lavatory, then it does not matter to that aircraft.

To make individual 10-15 page NEF documents for each aircraft would be a nightmare for most operators and would lead to a complete break down of standards, and ultimately safety. The downstream issue is that you would have different FAA inspectors approving different company NEFs, so what is acceptable in the Learjet 45, maybe not be acceptable to the Learjet 60 that was done a different time by a different inspector.
